as weekend circuit approach their 20th release, argentinian duo yyyy return for their second full length ep on the label to celebrate this benchmark. the yyyy modus operandi is already familiar to the initiated - expressive, raw techno experimentalism from the outer reaches. carry this blood is a collection of 4 moods and sounds, carved out with emotion soaked ambience, synapse flaring distortion and machine fracturing rhythms. repent , as the title suggests, takes no prisoners, leaving no survivors in it s wake, it is a glimpse into a tear in the time-space continuum where chaos rules. hands towards the giver is epic, glacial, spacial widescreen techno. dramatic and urgent, the soundtrack to a doomed planet collapsing from within. carry this blood bestows an eerie, cold feeling. an atmosphere of regret and loss hangs over it like a thick fog on a hillside, punctuated only by a heartbeat mimicking kick drum offering a human touch. of thrones and comfort snaps us out of the haze, the fog clears and we are faced with the frenzied electronics and thundering kick drum of this most sinister of tracks.

it s been a while since we last heard from flord king, who has popped up on junk yard connections as well as regularly featuring on lyssna. it s the latter label he returns to now, and he s got some focused, stripped down club fare to impart. -el klassiko- is a shuffling, funky minimal house jam with some wriggling melodies and a subby bass throb, while -avocado in blue- does a quirkier turn with some crafty synth flex that really stands out from the crowd. -bob- too is a distinctive cut with some detailed layers of dubby ripples and errant computer debris quivering and shaking over the mellow pads and steady beat. -deep diff- twists out some cheeky bass and an overall emotive mood that ends the record on a poignant tip.

sparrow s visit of jamaica, “the isle of springs”, during the month of june 1963, has left him with very pleasant and joyful reminiscences of the love, warmth and hospitality of its people. well! and it s from there it all started, for like oliver twist, sparrow continued, where ever he went to ask for more, and, obviously when the drinks are in, the wits are out. you are therefore left to deduce whatever you may during his presentation of this contribution. “i ll be around” (bossa-nova) is a warning to one of his lovers of her promiscuous traits towards him and the retribution she would eventually suffer for so doing. theses two calypso songs were recorded with the famous bert inniss national recording orchestra. this single 7” is absolutely impossible to find and will warm any dances in the world.

surely one of the most famous song that franck produced in his entire career.. the combination between him and mandel turner (naturally born in usa) was explosive the day they created this songin avery naive and uncalculated way .it all started from a beat on a mpc with a minimal hook and a bassline.. franck called his long time friend mandel turner to join him in his studio and explained him that the idea was not to do a classic garage song but to make it in a modern way. the result was to work on a strong chorus without verses etc .that we can found on every classic songs. we gived a demo track to appolonia guys wich were in ibiza starting their new residency at dc10 and it has been played the whole summer and all clubbers in ibiza knew this song and became a underground hit when it came out.. franck asked to his close friends (seuil etc..) and producers to give another interpretation of this song because he knew that his friends loved already this song.. so they gave to this song a new life few month later after the success of the original release. today we got ion one wax different versions of this song for different time to be played and different audiences.

the empire line present six cyclonic episodes for confined spaces on their debut album, rave. comprised of posh isolation s christian stadgaard (damien dubrovnik, vanity productions), jonas ronnberg (varg), and with isak hansen (iron sight) on tantrums, the trio s marauding live shows have been translated into a slippery set of pummelling techno works, watermarked with florid noise. rave is a celebration of contemporary rave culture, focused on the everlasting and transcendent as the night slips out past the day. with living-for-the-weekend hedonism irretrievably converted into a manicured, violent cliche, building new worlds and forging new modes of intimacy takes an exceptional sincerity. naming some of the crews closest to the empire line in the album s titles, their spaces are examples of just how rave culture persists as a transgressive stronghold in people s lives. ranging from k-hole anthems to jacking, close-range sessions, rave still bears the traces of the group s experimental background, ensuring the tension is kept up through the catharsis.

jonny nash (guissian curve / melody is truth) and firecracker s lindsay todd get barefoot and turn out a stunner of an lp. over the course of twelve compositions we find the pair utilising their recordings in a whole host of ways, avoiding the well-trodden cliches of the exotic and instead attempting to achieve a personal interpretation of the flora, fauna and climate of the island. spending time amidst the insects, rice fields and scorching sun, the pair gathered a library of found sounds which were then taken back to a studio space to be stretched, mangled and manipulated alongside a variety of electronic and acoustic instruments. the outdoor studio itself became a living instrument, with the duo setting up multiple microphones for durations of up to 12 hours around the space, layering and processing the results in tracks such as fauna mapping and a series of small frogs

frank is the latest release from dolfin records, a texas indie label with a prominent underground roster that includes rapper lord byron, producer ben hixon, r&b singer jon bap, and former stanley clarke drummer mike mitchell. liv.e is one of the newer artists on the label, having previously collaborated with hixon through a series of dj parties in dallas (“new math mondays”). hixon and bap have significant marks on this project, providing production, mixing, and background vocals. the beats they lend are often heavy on the drums, with short, hazy riffs that resemble dilla-style syncopated loops. frank opens with a short hiss, launching into a jittery pattern of cymbals and drums, stinging bass slaps, and bouncy guitar riffs. you can almost see the tape reels rolling in front of you as the instrumental loops play themselves out with occasional flutters and skips. a chorus of voices enter with harmonies out of the george clinton songbook, blending in behind the slow, finger-snapping beat. it sounds more like a lost, dusty funk recording from the ’70s than an r&b song made in 2017. -nitish pahwa (passion of the weiss)
